Towson SGA Hosts Spring 2016 Student Group Summit
The Towson SGA held its spring Student Group Leadership Summit on February 13th, 2016 in the West Village Ballrooms. At the summit, student group leaders took part in several workshops and breakout sessions designed to provide them with information which will help them function through the remainder of the 2015/2016 academic year and prepare for next year. Additionally, students ate lunch with their SGA Senators and special prizes were given to those who remained through the optional portion of the summit.
This summit marked the first time student groups were able to sit down with their assigned Senators at the same time as all the other groups represented by that Senator. This way, groups were able to communicate together with their Senators about how they could best be served by the SGA this semester.
As it did at the fall summit, the SGA presented Treasurer workshops to student group officers to ensure they were familiar with SGA financial policies. There was also a workshop to explain the best ways to utilize Events and Conference Services to reserve rooms for group meetings and events
The SGA went over the community service and fundraising requirements necessary to receive student group budgets. At another workshop, Towson’s SGA provided comprehensive instructions on how to transition members of a group’s executive board whenever there is a leadership change in their organization. Student leaders were also welcomed to a breakout session on professional communication, which prepared them for interactions with guests and administrators when they contact individuals outside of their group.
The Towson SGA is proud of its commitment to student groups and looks forward to continuing its record of dedicated service through the remainder of the spring semester. After the spring summit, student groups are more equipped than ever to use Towson’s SGA as a resource to address their needs.
