Judicial Branch

Mission Statement

The Judicial Branch serves as the appellate body of Towson University’s Student Government Association. The Judicial Branch is intended to provide an educational, fair, socially-just, and multi-faceted adjudication process that addresses allegations of misconduct in regards to the Towson University Student Government Association’s governing documents along with local, state, and federal law.

Appeal Process for Student Groups

  1. A student group member will submit an appeal and documentation (tell Kurt to upload a place for it) online at SGA.
  2. The appeal is reviewed by Chief Justice who will decide to overturn the appeal or scheduled a hearing.
  3. The hearing is attended, where student group members should come educated on the appeal and prepared with documentation necessary to overturn the appeal.
  4. The hearing decision is made and announced in an email and announced at the next SGA meeting.

Appeal Legislation

  1. A general student or SGA senator can submit appeal.
  2. Hearing is scheduled and attended with documentation with the appealing person, the senator who submitted legislation and judicial board.
  3. Hearing decision is made and announced in an email and at the next SGA meeting.

Student Group Appeals FAQs

What can be appealed?

Tiger Stripes Packages- If a student group believes they received the wrong tiger stripes package they can appeal the decision to the Judicial Board.

Denied Budgets- Student groups can appeal any reason they have been denied a budget, whether that is the wrong tiger stripes package, missed budget hearing or FACs meetings, or miscalculated fundraising.

How does the appeal process work?

What does the Judicial Board look for in an appeal?

In order to overturn the appeal the Judicial Board is looking for mistakes made by the SGA, misunderstandings on how to submit information to the SGA, and active work to improve the organization to ensure the problem does not happen again.

What should I bring to my hearing?

Any documentation proving that the appeal should be overturned.

Who should attend the hearing?

2-3 members who are knowledgeable on the subject of the appeal, one of them being an executive board member should attend the hearing.

What is needed for what package? Where is it turned in?

Kurt can you add in the tiger stripes package and who each part such as community service, roster, etc should be turned into.

What administrator is responsible for each part?

Can you put the administrator who is responsible for accumulating all the data for tiger stripes program such as event on involved at tu and other things thank you.

Who can appeal Legislation?

Any general student or SGA senator can appeal any Legislation passed by the senate.

What can be appealed?

Any Legislation passed by the senate can be appealed to the Judicial Branch.

What is the Judicial Board looking for in the appeal?

The Judicial Board is looking for the bill to be unconstitutional and not in the best interest of the students of Towson University.
